After failing as the 6-5 favorite in the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park last summer, and as the 5-2 second choice in the Del Mar Derby in September, Papa Clem finally did his job as a favorite in Saturday's San Fernando Stakes at Santa Anita. Benefiting from an ideal ride by jockey Tyler Baze, Papa Clem stalked the pace set by Smart Bid, moved to the lead in early stretch and won by a half-length.
